the work of mara sternberg | things drawn and written.

Mara draws and writes and sometimes does both of these things together.

Her story "When We Lived Together In The Belly Of A Whale, Some Nights Were Perfect" won the 2013 Stella Kupferberg Memorial Short Story Prize. It was read on stage in Manhattan by actor BD Wong and aired on NPR in an episode of Selected Shorts. It was later adapted into a play and performed in Querétaro, Mexico.

Her comics have been published in Descant, 4panel, Carte Blanche, Sequential and also some other things.

She is currently organizing and accepting submissions for 'On Nights Like This', an anthology of comics by survivors of sexual violence.

When she's not hitchhiking and living in a tent with her mutt-dog River, they live in Toronto, in a slanted house in Kensington Market, with a rambling cat called Tom Waits.
